Men Against Divorce, Deception and Disease
Disease, divorce, two devastating issues, but when bound together, the impact can be even more devastating. These issues impact lives, relationships, families and mental stability for men and women. The impact for women is well documented, and explored. Books have been written, seminars taught, there have been lectures, and many personal stories have been shared about the devastation that occurs when divorce and disease are bound together because of a failure of relationship. But as the saying goes there are always two sides to every story.
For the men, yes, these issues are just as devastating. Yes, I know it may be said that men are their own worst enemy and many marriages, and relationships fail due to the immaturity of men; the selfishness or self-centeredness of men; the greediness of men, and in some cases the ego centric attitude of men. The Bible records accurately what happens in a man heart; James 1:13 says; “let no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted by God, for God cannot be tempted with evil, nor does He temp anyone. But each one is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then when desire is conceived it gives birth to sin. And sin when it is full-grown bring forth death.” It is said that some men don’t know how to love; how to be sensitive; how to be gentile and caring; That they have a distorted sense of what a real man looks like; That they believe the hype on the internet, books, television, and movies. That they lack the foundation of what a real man is because some men have never had a positive relationship with their own father. While some of these statements may be true, they are not valid excuses for the failure of men in relationships. Sin is the cause of our failures and it is the disease of the soul. Romans 6:23 says; “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Proverbs 8:36 says; “But he who sins against me (God) wrongs (diseases) his own soul. All who hate me love death.”
God made a promise through the prophet Ezekiel (Ezekiel 36:26) that he would replace the stony heart of man with a heart made of flesh. A heart of flesh is filled with “love, joy peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control” (Galatians 5:22). Jesus suffered and died to bring about this resurrection in the lives of all of us. Jesus said in John 10:10, that He gives not only life, but life more abundant. This abundant life that is available to each us gives us the peace that passes all understanding when problems arise, joy unspeakable and full of glory when there should be no joy when the future seem bleak, and rest in mist of the troubling storms of life. Since we are surrounded by not only a cloud of witnesses. but many examples of successful Christian lives, that can attest to the validity of God’s promises, why don’t we embrace the values, directions, and the commands of God? It is because we are diseased by sin! God has diagnosed our condition, and prescribed the medicine for our souls. It is the mind of Christ. Listen to what Romans 12:1-2 says: “I beseech you therefore brethren by the mercies of God, that you present your body a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God which is your reasonable service and be not conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove the acceptable and perfect will of God.” Yes, a transformation is needed and we have a part to play in this transformation. We need to be willing to change. Willing to give up ourselves to God so He can begin the process of change in our lives.
The Bible says that we are not to be unequally yoked together. But when two diseased souls come together in a relationship (marriage), It is virtually impossible for there to be a recovery of lives. Without the proper attention, the disease continues to fester until it destroys. When an untreated disease is left untreated it not only destroys the area where it started from, it begins to infect every area within its reach. Your wife, your children, family members, friends, and then your own physical body. Yes, a life not submitted to God can expose you to physical ailments. God does not put diseases on you but they are part of the curse of Adam. Jesus has broken the curse, but you and I must embrace the freedom that Jesus paid for with His life.
So, take a stand against disease and divorce, take your medicine! The Bible says in Proverbs 17:22, that “a merry heart does good like a medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones”. No wonder the Bible says that the Joy of the Lord is our strength”. Peter says in 2nd Peter 1:3, “As His divine power has given us all things that pertain to life and goodliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us through glory and virtue”. That is Jesus Christ. Visit doctor Jesus through prayer and submission. Follow His instructions to; “Seek the Lord with all of your heart and lean not to your own understanding, but in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path” (Proverbs 3:5) God has given us everything we need to be healthy and well. When you are healthy, you can have a healthy marriage relationship, when you are healthy, your children will be healthy. When you are healthy family ties will be healthy, when you are healthy you can enjoy physical and spiritual health.
